5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Effective - I am now a believer
May 18, 2019
UPDATE: 22 June 2019 - It has been 4 weeks that the balls have been up. Yellow fly Swanson is pretty much over but in the last 4 weeks the amount of flys seemed to reduce dramatically after I installed the bug balls. Updated photos were added and you can see how many of the little son of a guns that got. Almost all the insects stuck to the bug balls are yellow flys. The bug balls are still sticky so I'm going to leave them up just in case there are a few yellow flys still out there.

Original review: Yellow fly season has just startred in South Alabama. I purchased this kit based on other reviews. I am a believer. These pictures are less than 24 hours after installing these devices. There are approximately 3 dozen yellow flies already stuck. Time will tell if this product reduces these annoyance of these pests, but 3 dozen less is a good start.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sized for most residential yards

No doubt these work. But I was very shocked at how huge the balls (think beach)are. I think they would make great fly control help in a huge kennel, or cow/horse barns. Maybe even in a large pole building where the doors are open inviting in the flies. But to avoid getting stuck to humans, children, pets, birds at feeders etc, there are very few yards that would be able to keep the ball from blowing or landing on the things you don't want to get stuck on them. Barn rafters higher up than a 6' man can reach would be good. I know I don't want baby orioles sticking to them while learning to fly! I will donate them to a local thrift store. I know the numerous Amish or Menonite farmers in my area would find a good use for them!

4.0 out of 5 stars We have found this product to be a great solution.

We were experiencing about 3-4 attacks of horse and deer fly(s) when in/around our swimming pool and also further out in our yard. After the bug ball installation, it went to zero! I've just installed my second bug ball. We have found this product to be a great solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works amazingly well

These work! After a few days of slightly breezy weather these things were covered in dead yellow flies (the scourge of north Florida in May and June). They greatly reduce the number of flying bugs and if you stand near them and make them sway, the yellow flies and horseflies will go for the ball and not you! However, just don't use a twig to make the ball move. I did that with one that I didn't really look at first and managed to poke a hole in it with surprisingly very little effort. Even deflated, though, the ball still does its job.

5.0 out of 5 stars 26 deerflies in 3 days!
May 12, 2019
Deer flies were bothering my horses so I tried these balls. We live right next to a swamp, I read their breeding ground. The 1st ball had 41 deer flies in 5 days, the 2nd ball had 26 deer flies and 1 horse fly in 3 days, the 3rd ball leaked and wouldn’t stay inflated, zero flies. Even though I sprayed the entire ball with sticky, only the top half had any stuck flies. So the deer flies are attracted to the ball somehow, maybe the shape, color or shinyness. Also collected many love bugs and one dragonfly. I think the other bugs just got blown into the ball. I’m extremely happy with the high number of deer flies collected.
Update: I bought 3 more balls, 2 of them have too many deer flies to count, maybe 100. I tried one in a sunny area, not so good. I moved it back under a tree.

Great communication from company. Two of the three balls were defective and were immediately replaced. Yellow flies are definitely attracted to it. Leave at least three foot of string so balls can swing in the wind to attract the flies. Good product 👍

worked like a charm; from June 1st - mid-July we and our dogs are chased by biting deer flies. when we found this on Amazon, we knew we had to try it. we only painted the sticky glue on the top half and hung it just in time for the 6-week season when the female deer flies need blood for their eggs' development. because they draw blood, deer flies can transmit tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease. this is definitely going on our annual garden schedule for years to come!
